Automatic to Manual Swap: Cj7 Manual Swap
Просмотров 2,5 тыс.5 лет назад
Hello Everyone in this video I am swapping a manual into my uncles Jeep CJ7. This is kinda a strange swap because cj7 never came with automatics but the guys who restored this jeep put a 360 and an automatic from a jeep wagoner but the automatic kept burning up so we decided instead of rebuilding the automatic we are putting a manual. I hope you all enjoy the video. Please comment, rate, and su...

1 Why didn't you have the body DIPPED, 2 Your telling me you didn't Rebuild the Engine and Tranny, 3 Did you replace all the seals and bearings in the front and rear axles?. Sounds like you did a half A$$ job on a GREAT JEEP.

As you know, owning a classic CJ is a learning process. Kudos for doing all the work yourself, "perfection is the enemy of advancement." you did a darn good job. Although, I find it curious that you removed cancerous metal in most of the Jeep by welding in new metal, but those spots below the door opening you chose to use body filler? Those were perfect candidates for welded-in patches.

that fuel pump is upside down, the bowl is supposed to collect water and sediment, just a small function, but over time, you can monitor both visibly till needing a clean out.

Thanks for the video. I'm not seeing why you dropped the drive shaft though. Looks to me like a regular brake adjusting tool has enough bend in it to spin the adjuster. I guess I'll find out in an hour or so. If it works without dropping the shaft I'll let you know.

Quick question: how can you tell the difference between a water can and a gas can? I'm working on one that looks just like this. No markings. Just rust and scabby paint and a yellowish lining. (I assume you wouldn't bother to line a gas can) Thanks in advance.

    • @garrettcervenka7112

The gas cans will have screw on caps while the water cans have a latch but this only applies to U.S. jerrycans if I remember correctly.

Anyone know what size/type of spout gasket to use? I was just handed two old jerry cans of the exact same type and was thinking of restoring them. There's the remnants of cork gaskets on them. Mine are far less rusty thankfully. I think an hour or two with a steel brush and a few coats of poly enamel will get these nearly new. Thanks.

Damn it, we support the criminal in Moscow. Putin can only be defeated if we implement an immediate energy-saving lockdown. No more private trips. Heating only at night and only one room with light and electricity, you can simply set that at the fuse box....Cities could, for example, switch off every second street light and companies could switch off their neon signs. We can initially limit driving to pure business trips and hospital trips, etc...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop driving now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey ! Welcome back ! Happy 2022 ! Glad to see your Jeep is still looking great . Yeah , it’s probably long overdue for engine work but only you would know since your it’s driver . I’ve never had a hand on an L head or an F head 134 but I’ll guess that anything you do to address it in terms of replacing any parts of it , I.E. the valve train and the cylinder bores and if necessary an overbore and pistons and rings , that will no doubt improve it . I don’t know would you be adverse to an upgrade such as a V6 4.3 Chevy in either carburetored or throttle body injected as in stock form but that would really be an upgrade . Only question is can the T - 90 and the Dana 18 take the added hp / torque . The swap would of course have you chasing after motor mounts , block / trans adapter , clutch linkage adapting , exhaust , radiator hose configuration and most likely more . It’s a shorter wheelbase than my two Jeeps so I don’t know how front / rear driveshaft length will be affected . I had to shorten the rear shaft on the ’80 and was custom made , was beyond my scope and tooling . But honestly , if you get this in line four cylinder to your liking , then agreed , that’s all you’ll need . I did a motor swap on my 1980 CJ5 from the 2.5 ( 151 ) 4 speed w/Dana 300 to a 258 T5 5 speed and it’s Dana 300 from a 1985 CJ7 from a junkyard . It woke it up , even though the 2.5 ran well . If the 258 in my 1973 needs a rebuild , I’ll consider a 4.3 . It is currently apart for some frame repair and preparation for rust coating and painting to resume in the spring ( I got no garage ) and complete body tub rebuild . Your body tub was salvageable . My body tub needed front and rear floor panels , wheel wells and side panels . To patch weld panels would have been fruitless and would have looked horrid . A replacement tub would have cost , I figure , almost a $1000 more than the replacement floors and panels I purchased . It’s going to be involved doing the side panels as they are replacement panels and are supposed to be grafted to the tub . It will work out that I’m to cut the upper edges of the tub and splice on to them the new panels . Hey , I’m not a body man nor a good sheet metal welder . So I’ll be learning as I go , slowly . I’m just hoping my ‘73 will look as good as your ‘65 . My ‘80 has a good body and only needs a little body tub repair but no need for tearing out any panels or floors . Ok , enough about me , this is your channel . At least you’ve got the initiative to even make a RUclips channel of your Jeep . I’d just draw flies rather than viewers . Hoping to see more of this engine rebuild when your able . Definitely want to see it rolling and see the results as well as you are to ! I know I just threw a lot at you in terms of my Jeep problems and an idea of a motor swap but shouldn’t try to suggest , it’s your Jeep and you’ll build it your way . Truth be told , it’s stock powertrain and drivetrain will be fine in good working order as it’s been for this long . Will be just as good when you’ve completed the engine work . Well , best of luck and looking forward to your next video(s) .

Just wait til you hit about 240,000 miles and tranny and motor go out. You can also go into the tailgate and remove the switch and just butt-connect the wires to make they key operate the window. '96 XL owner here. You have metal fender well edges so water tends to collect less in those. Anxious to see how this turned out.
